Website maintenance

Website maintenance, from the person who built it.

I maintain the websites I build, month to month, for small businesses in Michigan. Maintenance covers hosting, software and security updates, backups, SSL certificates, monitoring, technical support and small content changes. There is no long-term contract: you can cancel with 30 days notice, and you own the code either way.

Based in Metro Detroit. Working with businesses in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Detroit, Birmingham, Berkley and across Michigan.

Who this is for

  • “The person who built our site moved on, and nobody knows how it works.”

  • “We find out the site is down when a customer tells us.”

  • “Changing one line of text takes a week and three emails.”

  • “We are not sure our site is backed up, or secure.”

What you get

What is included

  • Hosting

Fast, secure hosting set up and managed for you. Nothing to configure on your end.

  • Updates and security

Software and security updates applied as they come out, so the site does not quietly fall behind.

  • Backups and recovery

Regular backups, and a way back if something goes wrong.

  • SSL certificates

The padlock in the address bar, renewed before it ever expires.

  • Monitoring

The site is watched, so problems get noticed by me instead of by your customers.

  • Small changes and support

Content updates and fixes handled by the developer who knows the code, without a ticket queue.

How this goes

How working with me goes

No twelve-week discovery that produces a slide deck. You see working software early, you talk to me every week, and you can stop after any phase.

  1. 01 · 30 min, free

    A call

You tell me what is breaking. I tell you whether I am the right person for it — sometimes the honest answer is no, and you will get that answer on the call.

  2. 02 · 1–2 weeks

    Scope and plan

I map your tools and how the work really gets done, then we agree on a scope and a budget that fits the business. You get a phased plan and a clear decision point before anything gets built.

  3. 03 · 8–14 weeks

    Build and ship

Working software in staging from week two. A call with me every week. You see it as it comes together, not at the end.

  4. 04 · Ongoing if you want

    Handover

Full source, full docs, full ownership. If you stop working with me tomorrow, your team can still run it. A retainer is optional, never assumed.

Straight answers

Questions people ask about website maintenance

What does website maintenance actually include?

Hosting, software and security updates, backups and recovery, SSL certificate renewal, performance monitoring, technical support when something on the site breaks, and small content updates. Bigger changes, like a new section or a redesign, are scoped separately so you always know what you are agreeing to.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Maintenance is month to month, and you can cancel any time with 30 days notice.

What happens to my site if I cancel?

You keep everything: the code, the content and the domain. You will need to move the site to other hosting, and I hand over what you need to do that.

Do I own my website if you maintain it?

Yes. Maintenance never changes ownership. The full source code and documentation are yours, with no lock-in.

Can you take over a website someone else built?

Sometimes. I start by looking at how it is built and hosted, then tell you honestly whether taking it on makes sense or whether starting fresh would serve you better.

Who will I be talking to?

Me. The person who answers is the person who wrote the code, so nothing gets lost being passed along.

Tell me what your business does and what is getting in the way. I will tell you what I would build, roughly what it takes, and whether I am the right person for it.
